Turns out all that ocean-and-mountain scenery is doing some heavy lifting: Vancouver has been ranked the fourth happiest city in Canada for 2026.
The Ranking, Briefly
According to the new ranking, Vancouver didn’t just land near the top — it’s also happier than it was back in 2025, which is a small but genuinely nice data point in a year where “cost of living” has dominated most conversations about the city.
Does That Track?
Anyone who’s lived here through a housing search or a transit fare hike might raise an eyebrow at “happiest,” and that’s a fair reaction — Vancouver’s affordability problems are real and well documented, and a happiness ranking doesn’t erase them. But rankings like this one usually weigh in more than cost of living: things like access to nature, walkability, community connection, and general quality of life, all of which Vancouver still delivers in a way a lot of Canadian cities can’t match.
It’s less “everything here is perfect” and more “the fundamentals — mountains fifteen minutes from downtown, an ocean you can actually swim in, a genuinely diverse and tight-knit community scene — are still doing a lot of work to keep this city livable, even when the math on rent doesn’t.”
So, does Vancouver feel like one of the happiest cities in Canada to you? We’re curious where you’d rank it. 👀
