Sixty-six votes. That’s the gap between the NDP and Conservative candidates in Burnaby South-Metrotown, one of the tightest races of B.C.’s October 2026 provincial election.
While the Conservatives took a majority province-wide, a handful of ridings came down to the wire. Burnaby South-Metrotown is the Metro Vancouver one to watch, and Kelowna Centre was another nail-biter. In a riding this close, a few dozen people deciding to vote, or not, can change who represents thousands of neighbours.
Why this riding is worth knowing
Metrotown is one of Metro Vancouver’s busiest urban hubs: transit, towers, big shopping centres and a mix of cultures and languages in everyday life. Whoever represents this area makes decisions that touch renters, newcomers, students and small business owners in a community where people live close together and rely on shared services.
What happens with a margin this thin
- The number can move. Close results are often not final on election night, and later counting can shift the margin.
- A recount is possible. B.C. rules allow recounts when results are extremely close. We’ll leave the technical details to Elections BC.
- Final confirmation takes time. Expect official word to arrive after the initial count.
We don’t know yet how this race will end, and we won’t guess. What it does show is how much a single vote can matter, especially in communities where turnout is often a topic of conversation.
