October isn’t only about pumpkins. In Vancouver, it’s also a month to celebrate Latin American culture.
The Latin American Heritage Month Festival is bringing communities together with special events taking place all month long, as reported by Daily Hive.
A community that shapes the city
Latin American communities have long been part of Metro Vancouver’s cultural fabric, through music, food, dance, language and family traditions that span many countries and histories. “Latin American” is not one culture but dozens, and a month-long festival gives space for that variety to show up.
Heritage months matter because they move culture out of the background. They give organizers a reason to programme, give neighbours a reason to show up, and give newcomers a way to find their people.
How to get involved
- Look up the festival’s event calendar for what’s left in the month.
- Bring friends who’ve never been. These events are made to be shared.
- Support Latin American-owned restaurants, cafés and shops around town.
- Follow the organizers so you catch next year’s lineup early.
Specific dates, venues and ticketing weren’t detailed in the coverage we saw, so check the festival’s official channels for the current schedule rather than relying on our word for times.
