Fleetwood Huey’s Emotional Performance of ‘Drown’

Fleetwood Huey’s live rendition of “Drown” at Sounds of the City was raw and emotional — the kind of set that stops a room.

Fleetwood Huey

Fleetwood Huey didn’t just perform “Drown” at Sounds of the City — he sat inside it. It’s a rap track built on real emotion rather than punchlines for their own sake, and live, that showed. The kind of set where the room goes quieter than you’d expect for a rap show.

That’s become one of the recurring surprises of this series: how many artists use the Sounds of the City stage to show a side of themselves their studio tracks only hint at. Fleetwood Huey’s in-depth delivery here is a good example — vulnerable without losing any of the craft.

Full performance is above. If “Drown” is your first introduction to Fleetwood Huey, it won’t be your last.
