TacoLoco and Charqui Are Bringing Latin Flavour to Vancouver's Coal Harbour Waterfront

Coal Harbour’s waterfront is getting a new dose of Latin American flavour. The Vancouver Park Board has selected the operator behind TacoLoco and Charqui to open a brand-new restaurant at Harbour Green Park — one of the most scenic (and most competitive) stretches of shoreline in the city.

If the names sound familiar, that’s because they should. TacoLoco has spent years building a loyal following around the city for its street-style tacos, while Charqui leans into South American-inspired grilled fare — the kind of concept built for exactly the al fresco, walk-up-and-order energy that a waterfront park restaurant needs. Pairing the two under one roof at Harbour Green Park is a natural next step for a team that already knows how to get Vancouverites lining up.

Why the Park Board Pick Matters

Restaurant concessions on public parkland don’t get handed out casually — the Park Board runs a formal selection process for exactly this reason, weighing everything from concept fit to community benefit before signing off on who gets to operate in some of the city’s most visible public spaces. Landing a Latin American-rooted concept at Harbour Green Park, rather than another generic waterfront chain, is a small but real signal about the kind of food culture the city wants representing its front-row seats to the harbour.

For the neighbourhood, it’s also just good news on a practical level. Coal Harbour has no shortage of condo towers and seawall joggers, but it’s historically been light on food options that feel distinctly Vancouver rather than interchangeable-with-any-city upscale. A concept with actual roots in the local food truck and restaurant scene changes that math.

No opening date has been locked in yet, so consider this your heads-up to start planning that seawall walk with tacos as the reward. Would you rather see more homegrown Vancouver concepts land these prime waterfront spots, or does it not matter to you as long as the food’s good?
