Thirty years of open doors. Eastside Culture Crawl is turning 30, and Vancouver’s biggest visual arts festival is back in November.
The festival, billed by The Tyee as the city’s biggest visual arts event, invites the public into artists’ working studios on the east side. It’s less gallery, more peek behind the curtain.
Why you should go
Studios are where art actually gets made: the clutter, the unfinished pieces, the artist who’ll talk your ear off about their process. Buying directly from a maker also means your money goes straight to a local creative.
A 30th anniversary says something about a festival’s staying power in a city where studio space is hard to hold onto.
Tips for your first crawl
- Wear comfy shoes. There’s a lot of walking and a lot of stairs.
- Pick a handful of studios in advance rather than trying to see everything.
- Bring a tote bag and a little cash or a card for small works and prints.
- Ask questions. Artists love it.
Exact dates, hours and the participating studio list weren’t in the coverage we saw, so check the festival’s official site for the current guide.
