Arc’teryx’s Walk Gently Collection Puts Musqueam Artist Cole Sparrow-Crawford and Salish Design Front and Centre

Arc’teryx’s new Walk Gently collection, developed with Musqueam artist Cole Sparrow-Crawford, draws on Salish traditions from the land Vancouver sits on.

A Vancouver-born outdoor brand just handed the spotlight to a Musqueam artist, and the result is worth a closer look.

Arc’teryx has released its latest Walk Gently collection, developed with Musqueam artist Cole Sparrow-Crawford. The collection draws on Salish traditions, bringing Coast Salish visual language into gear that most of us associate with rainy commutes and North Shore trails.

Why this one matters here

The Musqueam people are the host nation of the land where much of Vancouver sits. Salish art isn’t a trend or a backdrop in this city. It’s a living tradition that was here long before the mountains became a logo.
So when a brand with deep local roots works directly with a Musqueam artist, the question that matters is whose hands shape the story. Here, the answer is Sparrow-Crawford’s.

What we know, and what we don’t

The headline facts are simple: a collection called Walk Gently, a Musqueam artist at the centre of its development, and Salish traditions as the foundation. Pricing, piece-by-piece details and release specifics weren’t confirmed when we put this together, so check the brand’s own channels before you plan a purchase.

The bigger picture for Vancouver creatives

Collaborations like this can open real doors for Indigenous artists, from visibility to paid, credited work on a big stage. They also raise fair questions about credit, ownership and how long a partnership lasts beyond one launch. Those are the conversations worth following as more local brands look to Indigenous artists.

If you’re in Vancouver, keep an eye out for Sparrow-Crawford’s work, and seek out Musqueam and other Coast Salish artists directly. What would you want to see more of from local brands working with Indigenous artists? Tell us below. 👀
