Some dinners are about the food. This one is about who’s missing from the table.
Vancouver restaurant Botanist is bringing together Mexican culinary and cocktail talent for a feast of remembrance, a celebration of life, death, memory and the enduring power of a good meal that honours the people who are no longer with us.
Why a meal is the perfect way to remember
In Mexican culture, remembering the dead is not meant to be grim. Around Dia de Muertos, families build altars, cook favourite dishes and set out the things their loved ones enjoyed, because food is one of the oldest ways to say you are still part of this family. A dinner built around that idea turns a restaurant into a gathering place for memory.
That’s what makes this event worth noticing. It puts Mexican cooks and cocktail makers at the centre of the story and lets the tradition lead, rather than treating it as a themed menu.

Vancouver has a growing Mexican food community, and events like this give it room beyond the taco counter. If you have someone you’d raise a glass to this season, a table like this might be the right place to do it.
