A samosa croissant. If that sentence made you hungry and slightly confused, welcome. You’re exactly the target audience.
Vancouver has a new bakery serving up Indian-inspired pastries, and the samosa croissant is the headline act. It takes the buttery, flaky structure of a French classic and pairs it with the spiced, savoury comfort of one of South Asia’s most beloved snacks.
Why this fusion works
Metro Vancouver has one of the largest South Asian communities in Canada, and the Punjabi Market and Fraser Street areas have shaped the city’s food culture for generations. A samosa is lunchtime, chai time and family-gathering food all at once. Folding it into a croissant isn’t a gimmick so much as a natural next step for a city where Indian flavours are part of everyday life.
It also reflects something we see a lot in Vancouver: second-generation and newcomer bakers blending the food they grew up on with the techniques they trained in. The result is menus that don’t look like anywhere else.
Before you go
- Menu items and availability can change fast at new bakeries, especially a hyped one, so go early.
- Check the bakery’s own channels for current hours and opening details, which we couldn’t confirm for this post.
- Bring a friend and split a few. Sweet and savoury both deserve a taste.
Support the new spots while they’re finding their footing. Local bakeries live and die on those first few months of foot traffic.
