The 2027 Hope in Shadows Calendar Is Here: Buy One From a Vancouver Street Vendor

Megaphone Magazine’s 2027 Hope in Shadows Calendar, featuring community photography, is now on sale from vendors on Vancouver’s streets.

The 2027 Hope in Shadows Calendar is out, and the best way to get one is face to face.

Megaphone Magazine has revealed this year’s edition, which features photography from members of the community. It’s now available from Megaphone vendors on the streets of Vancouver.

What Megaphone is

Megaphone is a Vancouver street paper. Its vendors, many of whom face poverty, housing insecurity or other barriers to work, buy copies and sell them to earn an income with dignity. The Hope in Shadows calendar has been a tradition in the city for years, putting the lens in the hands of people who live the Downtown Eastside and surrounding neighbourhoods rather than people looking in from outside.

Why buying from a vendor matters

Buying directly from a vendor means your money goes to the person standing in front of you. It’s a small, concrete way to back a neighbour, and you get a year of images made by people whose perspectives rarely headline anything.

  • Look for Megaphone vendors with their badge around the city.
  • Pay what the vendor asks, and consider rounding up if you can.
  • Confirm price and vendor locations through Megaphone, as we couldn’t verify them for this post.

Gift season is coming. Skip the generic stuff and put this on a few lists. Where’s your favourite spot to run into a Megaphone vendor?
