Haitian Fire Meets Cambodian Flavour: Gregory Gourdet and Chanthy Yen Cook One Night Only at Touk in Vancouver

Portland’s Gregory Gourdet (Kann) and Vancouver’s Chanthy Yen (Touk) team up Nov. 9 for a five-course dinner, $199 with pairings. Here’s what to know.

Two chefs. Two diasporas. One table on Alberni Street.

On Monday, Nov. 9, Portland’s Gregory Gourdet is heading north to cook a one-night-only five-course dinner with Vancouver’s own Chanthy Yen at Touk (1152 Alberni St.). It’s part of a Pacific Northwest Dinner Series, and it’s the kind of pairing that makes you rearrange your week.

Who’s in the kitchen

  • Gregory Gourdet is a three-time James Beard Award winner and the founder of Kann, a contemporary Haitian restaurant in Portland. Kann won Best New Restaurant at the 2023 James Beard Awards and ranked 27th on North America’s 50 Best Restaurants for 2025.
  • Chanthy Yen won Top Chef Canada season 11 and runs Touk, where Cambodian cuisine gets a contemporary, personal spin.

Gourdet is known for open-fire cooking and bold spice, and he’ll bring that Kann energy to Vancouver. Expect a menu that draws on Cambodia, Haiti, Oregon and B.C., with Pacific Northwest ingredients tying it all together.

The details

  • When: Monday, Nov. 9 (one night only)
  • Where: Touk, 1152 Alberni St., Vancouver
  • Price: $199 per person, beverage pairings included
  • Pairings: Kann’s low-to-no-ABV cocktails, plus B.C. wines from Martin’s Lane Winery, including wines from its Oregon Project
  • Reservations: Online through Eventbrite

The dinner is presented by the Victoria International Wine Festival and Travel Portland. It’s one of several appearances Gourdet is making around B.C. in November.

Why this one matters

Haitian and Cambodian cooking don’t always get the fine-dining spotlight they deserve. Seeing two chefs from those traditions share a kitchen, in a city where Cambodian food has a home at Touk, is a reminder that Vancouver’s food scene is at its best when it’s global and local at once.
